Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) published its latest ranking of generative AI consumer applications, revealing several counter-intuitive findings about the global AI landscape. In the mobile rankings, nearly half of the top 50 applications come from Chinese teams, including CapCut, DeepSeek, Doubao, and Meitu's product lines.
The report also introduced a per capita AI usage index, which surprisingly showed that the US ranks only 20th, while Singapore, Hong Kong, and the UAE lead globally. This suggests that while America remains the epicenter of AI model innovation, it doesn't necessarily lead in everyday consumer adoption.
One of the most significant findings is the fragmentation of the global AI market into three distinct ecosystems: Western, Chinese, and Russian. DeepSeek stands out as the only application that truly crosses these boundaries, with its web traffic distributed 33.5% from China, 7.1% from Russia, and 6.6% from the US.[citation:3]
