Elon Musk revealed via his X platform account that Tesla's Terafab AI chip manufacturing project will commence in just seven days. While specific details remain limited, the announcement signals Tesla's transition from chip design to in-house manufacturing capabilities.
The Terafab facility will produce Tesla's fifth-generation AI5 chip, currently in development with a target 2027 release. According to Tesla's specifications, AI5 will deliver approximately 50 times the performance of the current AI4 hardware, featuring nine times the memory capacity and ten times the raw computing power. These chips will power applications ranging from electric vehicles to robotics, AI training, and data center operations.[citation:9]
